Antique Japanese Nihonmatsu Lacquer Tansu chest 2 section (21M-H3)

This is a 2 section antique Japanese Nihon Matsu Kasane Tansu from Nihonmatsu region in Fukushima prefecture.  Used for the storage of Kimono, its substantial capacity was overshadowed by its beautiful design.

Its age is from the 1880's to 1890's (mid Meiji era).

The iron lock plates incorporate the auspicious Tsuru Kame (Crane and turtle) design while the double action locks are decorated with side by side Chrysanthemum blossoms.
