This is an antique Japanese 2 section kimono clothing chest called Kasane Tansu from Middle Meiji period (1880's - 1890's).
It was constructed entirely out of Paulownia wood (Kirinoki).
Open fan has a shape that the ends are spreading out so it has very auspicious meaning such as a prosperity and good luck.
The backplate of handle has plum and Japanese pine designs.
Originally used for the storage of kimono in Japan, this chest would make a great clothes dresser or an elegant storage unit in any home decor.
